Sia's Opportunity, Annie's Moments

07:04

"A creative man is motivated by the desire to achieve, not by the desire to beat others."  Ayn Rand

Every moment in life comes with an opportunity to become better. Every opportunity is a moment to embrace success. Our lives are filled with many moments and opportunities, the seizing of those moments and the exploration and exploitation of such opportunities is what translates to success.

Despite their ubiquitous nature, it takes patience and understanding, deep observation and preparation to be able to adequately utilize them, for opportunities can only be seen when we are disposed to the moments.

I have been enamoured with Sia. Not just how a good lyricist she is but a good singer too. The lyrics to the song "Opportunity" was one of the soundtrack for the 2015 movie "Annie". I love that movie (I am sure you must have noticed) because of the lessons in it.

Annie teaches us great lessons in seizing moments and utilizing opportunities. Small wonder it was the song that came to her mind when she stood at that Fundraising Dinner for Mr. Stacks.  The lyrics to that song is right here for you to understand and appreciate the depths of the words that Sia wrote and how it can help us discover the moments and capture the opportunities.

"Opportunity"
(feat. Quvenzhane Wallis)

"Under the glow, of the very bright lights
I turn my face towards the warm night sky
And I am not afraid of a thousand eyes
When they're above
Five hundred smiles

Oh I used to think (Oh she used to think)
What wouldn't I give (What wouldn't she give)
For a moment like this (A moment like this)
This moment this gift

Oh, now look at me
And this opportunity
Is standing right in front of me
But one thing I know
It's only part-luck and so
I'm putting on my best show
Under the spotlight
I'm starting my life
Big dreams becoming real tonight
So look at me and this opportunity
You're witnessing my moment, you see

Now I find myself here, and it's time
This is real, an it's a gold mine
I'm not afraid to fly
When it's above
Five hundred smiles

Oh I used to think (Oh she used to think)
What wouldn't I give (What wouldn't she give)
For a moment like this (A moment like this)
This moment is gift

And now look at me and this opportunity
Is standing right in front of me
But one thing I know
It's only part-luck an so
I'm putting on my best show
Under the spotlight
I'm starting my life
Big dreams becoming real tonight
So, look at me and this opportunity
You're witnessing my moment, you see

My big opportunity
I won't waste it

I guarantee"
Annie's performance of that song was quite spectacular and for once you would think it was song not until you listen to Sia.

You have got loads of opportunities and they don't just come once, you have to create and find your moments and the opportunities will come to you.

Don't look for the everyday routine activities, look deeper, discover the moments that come at intervals and therein lies the many opportunities you seek.

Do this and like Sia and Annie, "I guarantee"  you success.
